Speaking of Education

6 09 2009

This post is not about education in schools.  It’s about educating the adults of America.  I know when it comes to the people who visit my blog I’m preaching to the choir, but perhaps you will spread this video to adults who are not so educated and most likely simply misinformed.  I try to avoid politics here at AAM, but sometimes politics is an overwhelming issue and in the case of healthcare reform, it affects enough musicians that I believe this video is relevant to amaranth music.  Healthcare is an issue for every American, after all.

Network Etiquette

9 03 2009

Today I went through some of the links to fellow composers and noticed several which didn’t link back.  Although I linked to you because I like your music, I also linked to you because I’m interested in networking.  But, yeah, some of you are too wrapped up in your own ego to take a few minutes out of your day to link back, so I’ll return the favor and unlink you.  I think one year is enough time to get around to proper network etiquette.  So if you see your name unlisted, take a second and ask yourself why you never thought to link back.  Netiquette.

And regarding networking sites.  Some of you make so much of whether or not you know me in order to “befriend me” (social network term for adding me to your friend list).  I had someone actually say they had to meet me in person to be “their friend.”  Sorry, so you play an instrument… join the club.  And when you come to town to play, I don’t want to meet you just to get on your friend list.  Give me a break…..

Some of you take yourselves way too seriously, lighten up.

About Time!

Yes!  A black guy finally made it into the White House.  This is great.  I think Obama will do good, at least I’m hoping he will with such a messed up economy, misguided warfare, educational deficits, constitutional plundering, and the list goes on.

I think we would have had an African-American president in office 10 to 20 years ago if it wasn’t for the assassination of Dr. King, so I kind of think this is a little late in the making.  This is probably one of the reasons our “sci-fi” present is nothing like we thought it would be 40 years ago, slug-like progress.  As an example, just look at how pugs have made sure we have progressed slowly on the stem-cell research front, just another example.

AAM salutes Barack Obama!

Adarofumalitis

It seems I have been afflicted by a rather nasty condition.  This condition I feel is a particularly pugilistic, stratch that, opportunistic strain which is known to affect composers from time to time in one degree or another.  A condition which morphs creationism (not the one for zealots) into a strange pessimism.  I consulted a psychiatrist in a dream not long ago and he said it was due to the system and the man and the pre-utopia condition and the demand of reality and fiscal articulation.  He said he was in the middle of writing a novel (petite-novel was his exact wording) about it.  Less than 20 pages but moving along sluggishly until a finale one could describe as blind mowing.
